Why Children Need NIN
All Nigerian citizens, including children and infants, are required to have a NIN for identity verification and access to government services.
Age Categories and Requirements
Ages 0-5 Years
- • Basic demographic data only
- • No biometric capture required
- • Parent/guardian must be present
- • Birth certificate mandatory
Ages 6-15 Years
- • Facial photograph required
- • Limited fingerprint capture
- • Parent/guardian must be present
- • Birth certificate and school ID
Required Documents
Document Checklist
- • Child's birth certificate (original and photocopy)
- • Parent/guardian's valid NIN
- • Parent/guardian's valid photo ID
- • Local Government Area of Origin certificate
- • Recent passport photograph of the child
- • School ID card (for children 6 years and above)
- • Immunization record (recommended)
Enrollment Process

Visit NIMC Center
Both parent/guardian and child must visit the NIMC enrollment center together.

Complete Forms
Fill out the minor enrollment form with parent/guardian details.

Data Capture
Age-appropriate biometric data collection based on the child's age.

Receive NIN
NIN slip is issued immediately upon successful enrollment.
Important Notes
- • NIN enrollment for children is free of charge
- • Both parents should be present if possible
- • Children will need to re-enroll at age 16 with full biometrics
- • Keep the NIN slip safe - it's needed for school registration and other services
