NIN Registration for Children and Minors: Parent's Guide

Why Children Need NIN

All Nigerian citizens, including children and infants, are required to have a NIN for identity verification and access to government services.

Age Categories and Requirements

Ages 0-5 Years
  • • Basic demographic data only
  • • No biometric capture required
  • • Parent/guardian must be present
  • • Birth certificate mandatory
Ages 6-15 Years
  • • Facial photograph required
  • • Limited fingerprint capture
  • • Parent/guardian must be present
  • • Birth certificate and school ID

Required Documents

Document Checklist
  • • Child's birth certificate (original and photocopy)
  • • Parent/guardian's valid NIN
  • • Parent/guardian's valid photo ID
  • • Local Government Area of Origin certificate
  • • Recent passport photograph of the child
  • • School ID card (for children 6 years and above)
  • • Immunization record (recommended)

Enrollment Process

Visit NIMC Center

Both parent/guardian and child must visit the NIMC enrollment center together.

Complete Forms

Fill out the minor enrollment form with parent/guardian details.

Data Capture

Age-appropriate biometric data collection based on the child's age.

Receive NIN

NIN slip is issued immediately upon successful enrollment.

Important Notes

  • • NIN enrollment for children is free of charge
  • • Both parents should be present if possible
  • • Children will need to re-enroll at age 16 with full biometrics
  • • Keep the NIN slip safe - it's needed for school registration and other services
